Recent improvements in permanent magnets have made possible a new concept for getting into space. The proposed Space Cable is a track in the sky reaching up to 87 miles. You can climb that height slowly and enjoy spectacular views of the earth and space, and return gently to earth on a ride rather like a cable car or gondola.

The Space Cable can act as a booster for rockets to get people into orbit, saving large amounts of fuel. It can launch small unmanned vehicles directly to the planets.

Use this web site to explore the ideas and possibilities. There are technical details on how it can work with existing materials and techniques put together in novel ways.
